Vancouver, with its magnificent mountains and sea, has been home for the Cenacle for over 60 years. (1947-2007) From 1947 to 1996, the Cenacle was in a spacious old Tudor Mansion in the Shaughnessy section of old Vancouver and welcomed thousands of retreatants. The present Cenacle is a large, lovely two story tan and brick home in the tree -lined section of Vancouver called Kerrisdale, just minutes from the campus of the University of British Columbia and about 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver. On a corner lot, the house has a peaceful prayer garden with places to pause for prayer, reflection, or perhaps just to listen to the song of the birds. As you enter the house, the quiet and peacefulness of the Cenacle greets you in the picture of Mother Therese, Foundress of the Cenacle, the sounds of a small water fountain, and a statue of Our Lady of the Cenacle. The large living room and dining room to the left accommodate groups that meet for Days, Mornings, Evenings of Prayer, workshops, or meetings. There are two rooms for Spiritual Direction, and two bathrooms for retreatants. Downstairs there is a small Chapel as well as the Prayer Card Office. The ensuite guest room on the second floor is used both for guests and private/directed retreatants. Overnight group retreats are offered at other sites including beautiful Rivendell on Bowen Island. There is a bright spacious kitchen on the first floor of the Cenacle, where the sisters do the cooking for themselves as well as the retreatants. Two Sisters of the Cenacle call this place their home, which gives a warm, welcoming feeling to the Cenacle. The sisters have bedrooms on the second floor and a family room on the first floor off the kitchen/breakfast nook area that opens out to a wood deck and garden. |
