Monday, June 18, 2012 Pray Always All Ways:
Returning to Our Breath and Its Lessons

Rev. Philip Chircop, SJ
www.philipchircop.com
9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
To “pray all ways” is the unspoken admonition cleverly hidden in the saying of Jesus “pray always”. To learn to pray always is to master the art of learning to pray all ways and at all times. This does not mean that we must enter some remote and secluded monastery, but rather that we must find ourselves involved in prayerful communion with God while feasting and fasting, while having fun and at play, while playing the fool and even while crying.
Minimum Offering: $45 includes lunch

Who Is this God You Pray to?
Exploring Our Developing Sense of Who God Is for Us

Sr. Roselle Haas, rc
7 p.m. Friday-2 p.m. Sunday
Where did you get your ideas about God? How do those ideas influence the possibilities for your relationship with God? Do you have any images of God that may interfere with developing a deep relationship with God? This retreat will explore these and similar questions. The reflections will help participants to look at any images of God absorbed through upbringing and culture, which may hinder a deep and personal relationship with the Divine and the fullness of life. In addition, we will look how God desires to meet us in our daily experience, how God surprises us and how God is always beyond our imagination.
Minimum Offering: $185 includes overnight accommodations and 5 meals.

Her autobiography, Story of a Soul, has consistently been among the most popular spiritual classics since it was first published in 1898. She was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997, just 100 years after her death.

Rumi-Nations:
Poetics for Daily Living

Rev. Philip Chircop, SJ
www.philipchircop.com
9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Poetry is the language of the soul. It is dynamic energy that can take a life in surprising directions. For Rumi, the 13th century Sufi master, it was his passion to share his realization with us: there is an invisible but immanent, majestic yet very tender and graceful reality we cannot afford to live without. There is some work we can do to remove what stands in the way of feeling this beauty and allow ourselves to be transformed by it.

The philosopher John Madquarrie says that in the first stage of the spiritual life we believe that if we pray, the things we fear won’t happen to us. In the second stage we believe that if we pray, the things we fear may well happen, but they will be transformed into times of new life. Sharing Your Faith with Your Kids: New for parents! It’s Not Really that Difficult
Michele L. Catanese, MChrSp
Session 1 – Faith: Why is it easier to talk with my kids about “the birds and the bees” than to talk about faith During the first session we will explore reasons why we find it so difficult to discuss faith and religion with our children. We will look at some causes of this discomfort, such as the experience we may have had as children being formed in faith (or the lack of experience). Also explored will be images of God and the effects these images may have upon us. Visit www. catanesesd.com. Session 2 - Theology 101: Basics of the Faith In this session we discuss how a little knowledge can go a long way. We do not have to be scholars or have a PhD in Theology to share faith in a convincing way. However, a few basics can help. Session 3 - Living Your Faith In this final session we will look at ways to live our faith in an authentic manner. If it’s real and natural, our kids will pay attention. It is our example that speaks louder than our words quite often.

Minimum Offering: $50 for the series, due at the time of registration

Elemental Christianity: Cultivating the Elements of a Companioning Heart

Rev. Philip Chircop, SJ
9:30 am Wednesday-2:30 pm Thursday
We will explore the gifts of wind, water, earth and fire as blessings that teach us some basic habits of the heart that mark a good and healthy spiritual director. Each element tells us something about the sacred journey. Water flows, cleanses, enlivens and teaches us the blessings of moistness. Earth grounds us, roots us, nourishes us and teaches us the blessings of darkness. Fire speaks of passion, love and ecstasy and teaches us the blessings of burning. Wind whispers to us lessons about freedom and surrender and teaches us the blessings of breath. When we embrace the gifts of the elements, we are open to cultivate the elements of a compassionate heart—within ourselves and those whom we companion. Visit philipchircop.com.

Open only to the Cenacle Spiritual Direction Staff.

A Stitch in Time: The Fabrics that Quilt Your Life

Rev. Philip Chircop, SJ
7 pm Friday-1:30 pm Saturday
This retreat finds its inspiration in the human heart’s longing for belonging. We all yearn to belong and be “at home” in our own skin, at home in the community, at home in the world and at home in the universe that hosts us. Quite often we live a deeply fragmented and dismembered life, which divides us within ourselves. We think one thing, feel another and do a third. During this retreat we will explore a few basic “stitches” that can sew our lives together again into one “seamless garment”. Visit philipchircop.com.

Minimum Offering: $185 includes overnight accommodations and 5 meals
